Dia de los Muertos is one of my favorite holidays! We went out to the annual celebration in downtown Riverside last Friday. Every year there are more and more people. It is getting to the point where it is impossible to see everything. I really wish there was a way to make it a bit more spacious. There were so many people that we had to keep Lou in the stroller and Phi spent the evening on Joey's shoulders. It was the best way to keep the kids close.
Despite the crowds we did get to see some beautiful altars.
And of course Joey pained mine and Phi's faces! I love that part.
aren't Joey's eyes such a beautiful brown? |
Even Louie got some face painting. Maybe next year we can really do up Louie's face without her smearing it all off.
Like we do every year we added my cousin Roman's name to the big community altar.
Every year The Phi asks for a "Rosita" plush doll. She has the book "Rosita & Conchita". She even gets her Dia make-up done to look like Rosita. The dolls are adorable but we always told her no. This year I bought the doll for her because earlier that day she brought home her report card with ALL A's!
So proud of you Phi! |
What a great-looking event; we may see you out there next year. Love all of the photos, especially the dark one with Sophia's head and the church (or Mission Inn) spire in the background. Tawny
ReplyDeleteLoved the church pic too! I also loved the virgin mary/skull face! Beautiful shots Elissa! Thanks for sharing the experience with us! And way to go Phi - Straight A's!
