a la minute- a modern creamery

Thursdays are Farmers Market night around here. Last night we headed to Redlands instead of the usual Palm Springs. There were 2 reasons for this.

1. Palm Springs has been so packed lately

It was the first nice warm day we have had in awhile. We got to wear dresses and sandals. Yea!

After walking the Farmers Market and getting Lou a "Doro" jacket and The Phi a new headband, we headed over to A La Minute Creamery. This is a new ice cream place that has just opened in downtown Redlands. This place is cool for a lot of reasons.

1. They use local ingredients. Local honey, chocolate, coffee, fruit.
2. They use all organic ingredients including all the dairy products.
3. They have unique flavors you can't find anywhere else
4. Your ice cream is made to order. Yes that's right.
After you place your order they make the ice cream fresh with liquid nitrogen.

They are a very trendy and hip place. You can tell because we had to wait in a line that was out the door. They also use an iPad for a cash register. Which I thought was very cool. Their ice cream menu is always changing and last night we had the options of....
  • Salted Caramel
  • Fresh Mint Chip
  • Orange Honey
  • Espresso Chip
  • Strawberry Balsamic
With some kid friendly options
  • Vanilla
  • Chocolate Chip
  • Strawberry
So Joey went for the Espresso Chip. It's weird he doesn't drink or really likes coffee but coffee ice creams are his favorite. And The Phi went with the Chocolate Chip. Since there were no sugar free or fat-free options I didn't get anything and Lou didn't get one because I am a mean mean Mom.

The Phi and I got to the front of the line and put in our order than stepped to the side (like my leg was broken) and watched as our order was being made. It is a very cool process. You see them add the liquid ice cream mixture into a bowl. Then they add chocolate chips. It goes into a kitchen aide where its mixed with the liquid nitrogen. It is like crazy mad science stuff.

Found out later that this is the Chef and owner of the joint.
Now I may or may not have forgotten to take photos of the actual ice cream because I may or may not have been stalkarazzi-ing the owner making ice cream and texting photos of him to my Boo. Hey I'm always looking out for you Boo.

The ice cream was amazing. I had tastes of both and the vanilla ice cream in the chocolate chip was amazing.  The fresh organic ingredients make such a big difference. And the Espresso Chip was fantastic. The ice cream was so creamy and delicious.

This is the look Lou was giving when she realized she was not getting her own ice cream.
Yea we know, this one as a teenager will break us all.
So all in all we give 8 thumbs up to A La Minute Creamery. I can see this becoming a sweet habit over the summer.

  1. Sounds like a great place to stop by. Wish it wasn't so far from here.
