Latino Books Y Mas
While out on one of our typical Thursday's in Palm Springs, we walked a street we don't normally walk. It was super hot and The Phi's cheeks were turning a very bright red. I told PR Dad that instead of walking the street we should head over to the art museum and wander in the air conditioning. As we turned the corner I noticed a beautiful wooden carved signed over a shop door. The sign said Latino Books y Mas. PR Dad asked if I wanted to go in and I just looked and said, "duh". See Mexican and Chicano culture are my passion. And this store was a hidden treasure. Everywhere I looked there was a book, piece of jewelry, t-shirt, statue, or piece of art work that I wanted to take home. I was pleasantly surprised to find a new novel by Victor Villasenor on display called "Crazy Loco Love" I could not resist and that did come home with me. PR Dad and I had a chance to talk with the owners for a little while. Genuinely warm and friendly people. They made us feel like old customers, even though it was our first time there. They even gave The Phi a water to help cool her off. They shared stories, successes and pictures with us. They have so many books it was overwhelming! And with a logo like that one, a replica of a Frida painting done with their own faces, you know you are in an amazingly creative and inspiring place! If you are in or near the Palm Springs area, please visit Latino Books y Mas. You will leave with a new book and a smile on your face.

ReplyDeleteHave you ever been to Martinez Book Store in Santa Ana on Main Street. Similar. He started out giving hair cuts and having books for his customers to read and slowly built it up to a book store (well two that I know of) plus a children's book store next door!
ReplyDeleteSuper mom and woman, pn gets to borrow the book first. pn
