Looks like its really happening.

If the flyers have made their way to Banning, then it must really be happening. Joey picked this up from Chelo's Taco Shop last night.

Basically it says that the boycott is happening on May 1st. We are not suppose to go to work, send our kids to school, spend any money, or even deposit or cash checks at the bank. The idea here is to let the rest of the country know how valuable the immigrant population is. I am anxious to know how many people will boycott, because if it is a high percentage it could really make an impact in California. Think about it, really think about it. This is a very contraversial topic. I think that those who oppose immigrants in the US don't completely understand the role that immigrants play in this country. Not to mention the history that this country has of inviting immigrants to work in this country. My grandfather first came to this country during the Bracero Program during WWII. In order for immigration to happen there is are push and pull factors happening. Mexico pushes them out and we pull them in. As the grandchild of an immigrant I know how wonderful this country is and the opportunity that is here. My grandfather came to this country, worked hard all his life and over the years produced a large family filled with good, law-abiding citizens who all make this world a better place.

  1. I am participating in this day. There will be a 'teach in' at the catholic church on campus followed by a peace march. I think that if everyone who chooses to abide by all that is asked (by not contributing to the economy at all) it could make a big impact!

  2. The Creep will be going to his very first rally on Monday! This is an issue that I very much believe in and support - even if my immigrant history happened 100 years ago (I am Irish-ish and the Electronic Panther is Italian-ish, two groups that were as hated as much as today's immigrants. Funny how soon people forget).

Because I try to stay out of politics on my blog I love it when I find out the people I have been talking to believe in the same things I do!
